Californian Quail

The small, plump little birds are so intriguing and I love to watch them in the garden. 

Foraging quail pace sedately, but when disturbed they run at speed, their feet a blur of movement, or burst into flight with noisy, rapid wingbeats. The babies fly at a very young age and remind me of little fluffy bumble bees!
